On February 24, a meeting took place between Gautam Adani and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi during the latter’s visit to India. Discussions included plans for a partnership to introduce Adani Group’s electric passenger cars on Uber’s ride-hailing platform, as reported by The Times of India.

As part of the proposed collaboration, Uber’s services would be integrated into Adani One, launched in 2022, providing various services like flight bookings, holiday packages, and cab bookings.

The partnership holds strategic importance for Adani Group, aiming to venture into the electric passenger vehicle segment. While already present in the commercial EV segment with offerings like buses and trucks, the collaboration with Uber facilitates a quicker entry into the passenger vehicle market.

Despite not being involved in vehicle manufacturing, Adani Group, with significant requirements in its ports and airports businesses, plans to acquire cars, brand them, and integrate them into the Uber network. The group has recently submitted bids for government tenders for over 3600 electric buses.

The images from the meeting between Gautam Adani and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi on February 24, 2024, were shared on Gautam Adani’s Twitter account.

How will the partnership help Uber?

The collaboration, if it happens, will play a role in helping the company meet its objective of replace its existing fleet with EVs across the globe, as it looks to transform itself into a ‘zero-emission mobility platform’ before 2040.

How will the partnership benefit India?

The partnership has the potential to boost the adoption of electric four-wheelers in the country, and could give Uber one of its largest electric vehicle fleet collaborations in the world.
