Rohit Sharma overtook Glenn Maxwell and Suryakumar Yadav in the list of players with the most centuries in T20 internationals

In a historic achievement, Indian captain Rohit Sharma secured a milestone by becoming the first player ever to register five centuries in T20 internationals. Unleashing an outstanding unbeaten innings of 121 against Afghanistan in the final match of the three-game series at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on January 17, Rohit showcased his remarkable batting prowess.

This century propelled him ahead of compatriot Suryakumar Yadav and Australia’s Glenn Maxwell in the race for the most T20 international centuries. Both Suryakumar and Maxwell had previously achieved four centuries each in the fast-paced format of the game.

Facing a challenging situation where India had lost four wickets rapidly, stumbling to a mere 22 runs, Rohit’s exceptional century played a pivotal role in the team’s recovery. By the conclusion of the innings, India posted an imposing total of 212-4.

Rohit, who had faced two consecutive ducks in his prior innings, demonstrated resilience by reaching his fifty in 41 balls. Intent on building a partnership following the early setbacks, once he surpassed the fifty-run mark, Rohit accelerated, reaching his century in a mere 22 balls. This stellar performance not only secured his place among the top five centurions in T20 internationals but also underscored his ability to dominate the game with his bat.
