Following strikes in Iraq and Syria, US President Joe Biden released a statement saying that the US does not seek a conflict in the Middle East but if any American is harmed, the country will respond

In the aftermath of airstrikes in Iraq and Syria, President Joe Biden issued a statement emphasizing that the United States is not actively seeking a conflict in the Middle East. However, he made it clear that if any harm befalls an American, the country will respond. President Biden’s robust statement was prompted by escalated tensions in the Middle East. The United States initiated airstrikes targeting militia positions in Iraq and Syria, as reported by CNN

The United States is not seeking conflict in the Middle East or anywhere else globally. However, those who intend to harm Americans should be aware that if an American is harmed, we will respond,” stated the US President. This statement indicates the initiation of what seems to be a series of more significant strikes against Iranian-backed militias implicated in attacks on US troops in the region. Two US officials have confirmed the commencement of these retaliatory measures.

Biden added, “This past Sunday, three American soldiers were killed in Jordan by a drone launched by militant groups backed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC). Earlier today, I attended the dignified return of these brave Americans at Dover Airforce Base, and I have spoken with each of their families.

This afternoon, under my direction, U.S. military forces conducted strikes on facilities in Iraq and Syria used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and affiliated militia groups to target U.S. forces. Our response commenced today and will continue at times and locations of our choosing.

Simultaneously, the US Central Command reported that airstrikes were carried out in Iraq and Syria specifically targeting Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force and associated militia groups. As per information from two US defense officials cited by CNN, the targets were distributed across seven locations.

The CENTCOM statement detailed the operation, stating that US military forces targeted over 85 locations, utilizing various aircraft, including long-range bombers flown from the United States. The airstrikes deployed more than 125 precision munitions and struck facilities encompassing command and control operations, intelligence centers, rockets, missiles, unmanned aerial vehicle storages, and logistics and munition supply chain facilities. These facilities were associated with militia groups and their IRGC sponsors implicated in attacks against US and Coalition forces.

On Friday, US airstrikes in Iraq and Syria involved the participation of Air Force B-1 bombers, as confirmed by a defense official to CNN. The B-1 is a long-range heavy bomber with the capability to deploy both precision and non-precision weapons.

In response to the strikes, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin released a statement, stating that these attacks mark the beginning of the US response. Austin mentioned that the President has directed additional actions to hold the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and affiliated militias accountable for their attacks on US and Coalition Forces. These actions will unfold at times and places chosen by the US, with a clear stance against seeking conflict in the Middle East or anywhere else. Austin emphasized that the US will not tolerate attacks on American forces and will take all necessary actions to defend the United States, its forces, and its interests.

The airstrikes were prompted by a drone attack carried out by Iran-backed militants on a US military outpost in Jordan on Sunday. The attack resulted in the tragic deaths of three US service members and injuries to over 40 others.
